About the Event
Calling all Black DMV Freedom Fighters, Educators, Organizers, Activists, and Healers!Â
The monthly People’s Practice is a time for us to come together as a tribe and make sure we good! Make sure we are breathing! Make sure we are resting!! Make sure our energy is flowing. There is no revolution to be had if we are not in control of our own energy, our own minds, our own spirits, our own bodies! The peoples practice is our space to realign.    For Black August, our focus is on building sustainable resistance! How do we make sure we as individuals are building movement and resistance in sustainable ways? How do we in the movement avoid burnout? How does that then allow us to build sustainable movements?? Tap in!! Revolutionaries, this is for you!!
*A Black space* Practitioners and educators will offer a collaborative practice and study space, connecting rest to resistance, and inviting us to reflect on the history and meaning behind Black August. This event draws on the teaching of griot and Black August Historian, Brother Kumasi, who makes clear connections between prison resistance movements, refusal to perform labor, and self-determination. Modalities including breathwork, soundhealing, and meditation will be used alongside popular education, storytelling, and self-study.
